Tämä eurooppalainen standardi pätee metallisille paineenalaisina lisälaitteina toimiville teollisuusventtiileille, joiden suurin sallittu paine PS on suurempi kuin 0,5 bar eurooppalaisen painelaitelainsäädännön mukaisesti , ja se määrittää suunnittelun, valmistuksen, testauksen, materiaalien ja dokumentoinnin vähimmäisvaatimukset. Kaikki asiaankuuluvat eurooppalaisen painelaitelainsäädännön venttiilejä koskevat olennaiset turvallisuusvaatimukset on otettu huomioon ja niitä käsitellään tässä standardissa. Tämä standardi ei päde seuraaville: — varoventtiili ja murtolevy (varolaite), — tarkastuslasi kehyksineen (painelaitteen osa) ja — mittauskammiot. Muut rajaukset on esitetty eurooppalaisessa painelaitelainsäädännössä [32].
