Tässä standardissa ISO 17636-1 esitetään kuvaustekniikoita metallisten materiaalien sulahitsausliitosten tarkastamiseen käyttäen teollisuusradiografian filmitekniikoita. Tämä standardi ISO 17636-1 soveltuu sekä levyjen että putkien hitsausliitoksille. Tavanomaisen merkityksensä lisäksi sana ”putki” tässä standardissa kattaa myös muita lieriömäisiä tuotteita kuten putkistot, kattilalieriöt ja painesäiliöt. HUOM. Tämä standardi ISO 17636-1 on sopusoinnussa standardin ISO 5579 kanssa. Tässä standardissa ISO 17636-1 ei anneta kuvissa havaittavien hitsausvirheiden hyväksymisrajoja. Jos osapuolet sopivat huonomman tarkastustekniikan käytöstä, on mahdollista, että saavutettavasta laadusta saattaa tulla oleellisesti heikompi, kuin jos tätä standardia ISO 17636-1 sovelletaan tarkasti.
